Meet Dr. Matt Penz
Matt Penz, DDS, grew up in Rochester, Minn. He is proud to serve his community by providing quality, honest dental care.
Dr. Penz is a graduate of Mayo High School in Rochester. He graduated cum laude from St. Olaf College in Northfield with a mathematics major and a biomedical studies concentration. While there, he played quarterback and served as captain of the Ole football team. To earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, Dr. Penz attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Upon graduation he received the "Quality Care in a Caring Matter" award from the dental school faculty.
While Dr. Penz enjoys all aspects of dentistry, he has special interests in cosmetic and sports dentistry. He stays current with the ever-changing field through continuing dental education, and is a certified Invisalign provider. Dr. Penz is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Minnesota Dental Association, and Zumbro Valley Dental Society.
Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Penz volunteered at the Good Samaritan Dental Clinic in Rochester. He credits the patients and staff he met there for his pursuit of dentistry as a career. Now, Dr. Penz volunteers at Good Samaritan in another role—as a dentist.
On a Personal Note...
Dr. Penz and his wife, Kate, reside in Rochester with their daughters, Sophie and Lucy. They love to bike, travel to northern Minnesota, and walk their dog, Nala.
A proud St. Olaf football alumnus, Dr. Penz participates in its club and fund raising events and follows the team's progress each fall. He is a fan of all Minnesota sports teams, especially the Vikings.
Dr. Penz looks forward to meeting you, getting to know your family, and caring for your dental needs.
Meet Anna, RDH
Anna’s professional demeanor will make you feel comfortable and cared for from the moment you sit in her chair. Rest easy knowing that Anna is doing everything she can to improve your dental health. She’s detail-oriented and thorough yet gentle—qualities that come with years of experience as a dental hygienist.
When Anna isn’t caring for patients, she’s spending time with her husband and chasing after their three young children (AKA the most active family you’ll ever meet—running, boating, golfing, and even slip-n-sliding together!). Her husband owns a construction company in Goodhue, Minn., and somehow they find time to work on projects on their early 1900s farmhouse.
We are completely confident that you will receive the very best care when you meet with Anna.
Meet Shelby, CDA, LDA
Shelby has a calm, caring demeanor and a positive attitude that will make you feel relaxed, and her fine attention to detail means you will receive excellent care each time you're in the dental chair.
Shelby was born in California but she grew up in a small town south of Rochester and brings that friendly small town charm to Penz Dental Care. When she isn't providing excellent care to patients, you can find her throwing strikes in her bowling league, playing piano, or spending time with friends, family, and her cat, Claire.
We're excited that Shelby is now a part of the Penz Dental Care team as a licensed dental assistant. We have no doubt you'll love her too!
Communications & Marketing
Kate is our go-to for marketing and patient communications. From the website to the waiting room, her priority remains the same: to make everyone who encounters Penz Dental Care feel cared for and welcomed.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys running, being involved in church activities, and spending time with her young daughters, Sophie and Lucy, and husband Matt (better-known here as Dr. Penz!).
Front Desk/Administrative Assistant
Need a boost? Spend five minutes with Heather! She doesn’t slow down—from driving kids around town to making sure Penz Dental Care is running smoothly—her upbeat energy is contagious.
Born and raised in Rochester, Heather is a John Marshall High School alum and University of Minnesota graduate with a communication science and disorders degree. After teaching for 14 years, she made the switch to dental care administration.
When she’s not greeting patients, Heather and her husband Todd can be found at soccer, hockey, and gymnastics events for their children, Noah and Ava, or cheering for the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota United. Heather enjoys long runs, traveling anywhere with palm trees, adopting rescue dogs, and wine tastings.
